We’re committed to providing you with the highest quality product. As we continue to develop FarmBot hardware and software, we will make changes. The final product that we ship to you may be different than the one shown in our videos, photos, documentation, and as described on our websites.
If anything is damaged or defective, we will replace the parts free of charge within 30 days of delivery of the product. See our limited warranty for more information.
FarmBot requires basic computer and mechanical skills to install and operate. The majority of our customers do not require any technical support and are able to install FarmBot using the provided online materials. Initial setup will require several hours of configuration and learning to become completely operational. Please schedule adequate time to learn about the software and hardware systems.
While FarmBot is extremely customizable, we cannot provide support to customers that use unofficial parts or intend to use the device in ways it was not designed to operate. We provide limited troubleshooting and technical support for customers that require extra help with their installation. Free support is limited to 1 hour, is non-transferrable, and expires 12 months after purchase of a kit. Please read our full support policy for addditional details.

Key info
FarmBot Genesis is our flagship kit for prosumers and enthusiasts featuring our most advanced technology, features, and options. Coming 90% pre-assembled in the box, Genesis can be installed on an existing raised bed in an afternoon. It is suitable for fixed or mobile raised beds in classrooms, research labs, and backyards.
New in v1.9
-
FarmBot Genesis v1.9 features new Y-axis and Z-axis kinematics, unlocking a myriad of benefits:
- The Y and Z-axis motors have been relocated to the gantry, significantly reducing the mass of the cross-slide and Z-axis stages to improve movement speed and reliability.
- The Z-axis leadscrew has been replaced with a belt driven system, reducing overall mass and noise of Z-axis movements.
- The volume of the Z-axis has been minimized, reducing the potential for interference with larger plants.
- The X-axis motors have been lowered from the gantry corner brackets to the gantry wheel plates, lowering the gantry's overall center of mass, improving machine stability and reliability of X-axis movements.
- The total length of motor and encoder cabling has been significantly reduced and several intermediate connections eliminated, reducing mass directly and indirectly via cable management components.
-
The camera, watering, and vacuum subsystems have been relocated to improve mass distribution and simplify everyday machine operation.
- The camera has been relocated from the Z-axis to the cross-slide, providing a fixed Z-height that simplifies calibration and guarantees a consistent and maximized field of view for all images.
- The UTM-mounted watering nozzle tool has been replaced with a permanently mounted watering nozzle located on the cross-slide, reducing the number of tool changes required for daily operations as well as the number of sealed connections.
- The vacuum pump has been moved from the cross-slide to the gantry column, lowering the center of mass, reducing cable length, and improving Y-axis movements.
- All silicone tubes for the vacuum and water subsystems have been replaced with standard 1/4" polyurethane tubing and all barbed fittings have been replaced with standard 1/4" push-to-connect fittings. This allows for more robust sealed connections, better tolerance of high water pressure, reduces the bending resistance of tubing in the cable carriers, and reduces water mass carried and moved by the machine.
- Smaller Y-axis and Z-axis cable carriers and supports reduce overall size and weight, improving reliability of movements along all three axes. Mass savings are compounded by new channels in the Y-axis cable carrier supports, allowing for clean cable routing without additional hardware across half of the gantry's width.
- A single 5-slot toolbay replaces two 3-slot toolbays, making installation and configuration faster and easier.
- New gantry main beam and Z-axis aluminum extrusion profiles reduce weight to improve movement speed and reliability.
- New gantry wheel plates incorporate cable routing affordances and reduce assembly complexity.
- An estimated 20% mass reduction for the full kit reduces the final product's weight, carbon footprint, and the likelihood of incurring damage from transit.
Nominal machine dimensions
- Width: Up to 1.5m (Genesis) or 3m (Genesis XL)
- Length: Up to 3m (Genesis) or 6m (Genesis XL)
- Height: 0.75 to 1.5m
Note: Serviceable area will be slightly less, and the max supported plant height is approximately 0.5m. See the documentation for the maximum supported raised bed size.

What you need to provide
Planter Bed
All FarmBots must be mounted to a raised bed or similar infrastructure. Neither materials for the bed nor soil are included with the kits because every installation will be different, and shipping lumber and soil would be prohibitively expensive.
Electricity
FarmBot must be plugged into a 110 or 220V outlet. The 30cm (1ft) power cord comes with a standard US 3-prong plug. You must connect this to your own extension cord if needed. Customers outside the US: you must provide a plug adapter if needed.
Water
FarmBot's water system has a 3/4″ female Garden Hose Thread (GHT) connection, meaning you can take a standard US garden hose and screw it into your FarmBot. You will need to provide a hose of the appropriate length.
Internet
FarmBot can only be controlled using the web app, so an internet connection is required. The Raspberry Pi has built-in WiFi, though you may need to reposition your WiFi router or install a repeater to ensure a reliable connection.
