FarmBot Genesis is 100% Open-Source
This means that all of the CAD models, schematics, bill of materials, and more are freely available for everyone to view, copy, edit, and improve upon.
This opens up a world of opportunities for students to explore fields like coding, makers to modify their FarmBot with 3D printing, and scientists to take full advantage of the platform.
Universal Tool Mounting
The FarmBot Genesis Universal Tool Mount (UTM) allows our top-of-the-line machine to mount and dismount a variety of lightweight tools — whichever one is appropriate for the task at hand (seeding, watering, weeding, etc). Using three neodymium ring magnets, tools are magnetically held in place during operation, but can be automatically dismounted in a toolbay and stored when not in use.
Once a tool has been mounted, FarmBot can power it up and communicate with it using the 12 gold-plated pogo pins inside the UTM. The stock connections include ground, 5v, 24v, as well as analog and digital I/O. Meanwhile, the remaining electrical connections are available for custom tooling such as specialized sensors or low power motorized implements. Additionally, the three liquid/gas ports provide water, vacuum air, and an expansion port for custom applications.
Best of all, because FarmBot is 100% open-source, you can download our CAD models to start designing your own compatible creations right away. Tools can be 3D printed and wired up with common electrical hardware in just an afternoon.

Watering Nozzle
Coupled with a solenoid valve, this tool allows you to precision water your plants with a gentle shower. The two-piece design allows custom spray patterns by 3D printing your own lower half.
Soil Sensor
By measuring the moisture content of the soil at each plant's location, FarmBot can water crops more efficiently. Coming soon is the ability to measure soil temperature to detect the risk of germination failure.
Rotary Tool
Powered by a 24 volt DC motor and featuring interchangeable implements and an adjustable motor angle, the rotary tool allows FarmBot to perform light duty weed whacking, soil surface milling, and drilling operations.
Seed Injector
Powered by a 24 volt vacuum pump, the seed injector can precisely position seeds in the ground with millimeter accuracy. Interchangeable luer lock needles allow for working with all seed sizes.
Seed Bin
The seed bin offers a large basin that can hold larger seeds (Squash, Pumpkin, etc) or a high quantity of one type of seed.
Seed Tray
The seed tray is suitable for planting many different crops or when the number of seeds per location needs to be strictly controlled.

Software
You control and configure FarmBot using the free FarmBot web application at my.farm.bot. We expect to indefinitely offer free service adequate for home growing needs, though we may charge for commercial or industrial FarmBot usage, for FarmBots larger than 3m x 6m in area, for FarmBots growing large numbers of plants concurrently, for multi-bot/multi-user management, for advanced features, and/or for other increased account limits. You can always host the software on your own server if you do not want to use our service.
Warranty
We’re committed to providing you with the highest quality product. As we continue to develop FarmBot hardware and software, we will make changes. The final product that we ship to you may be different than the one shown in our videos, photos, documentation, and as described on our websites. If anything is damaged or defective, we will replace the parts free of charge within 30 days of delivery of the product. See our limited warranty for more information.
Support Policy
FarmBot requires basic computer and mechanical skills to install and operate. The majority of our customers do not require any technical support and are able to install FarmBot using the provided online materials. Initial setup will require several hours of configuration and learning to become completely operational. Please schedule adequate time to learn about the software and hardware systems.
While FarmBot is extremely customizable, we cannot provide support to customers that use unofficial parts or intend to use the device in ways it was not designed to operate. We provide limited troubleshooting and technical support for customers that require extra help with their installation. Free support is limited to 2 hours, is non-transferrable, and expires 12 months after purchase of a kit. Please read our full support policy for addditional details.
What you need to provide
Planter Bed
All FarmBots must be mounted to a raised bed or similar infrastructure. Neither materials for the bed nor soil are included with the kits because every installation will be different, and shipping lumber and soil would be prohibitively expensive.
Electricity
FarmBot must be plugged into a 110 or 220V outlet. The 30cm (1ft) power cord comes with a standard US 3-prong plug. You must connect this to your own extension cord if needed. Customers outside the US: you must provide a plug adapter if needed.
Water
FarmBot's water system has a 3/4″ female Garden Hose Thread (GHT) connection, meaning you can take a standard US garden hose and screw it into your FarmBot. You will need to provide a hose of the appropriate length.
Internet
FarmBot can only be controlled using the web app, so an internet connection is required. The Raspberry Pi has built-in WiFi, though you may need to reposition your WiFi router or install a repeater to ensure a reliable connection.
