FarmBot Partners with iINNOVATE Regional Skills Lab
FarmBot Inc has partnered with the iINNOVATE Regional Skills Lab of the Central Coast of California to develop a short video and accompanying workshop and curriculum for over 13,000 local 4th grade students. The program focuses on the Ag Tech career path through the lens of FarmBot founder and CEO Rory Aronson, and will be administered in 480 classrooms across 35 school sites in 3 counties.
In the workshop, students will explore how precision farming robots like FarmBot move across X and Y axes—just like 3D printers. Using a STEM construction kit, they will build a prototype machine that simulates this motion and begin to understand how engineers program precise movement to automate farming tasks.
Technologies like FarmBot show how agriculture is becoming a highly advanced, innovative field that blends engineering, robotics, and computer science. The X–Y movement students explore is used in industries like 3D printing, robotics, and medical devices. By building and programming a FarmBot prototype, students develop transferable skills like systems thinking, spatial reasoning, and collaboration. These are the same skills used in careers across engineering and technology. As global challenges grow, the ability to design and work with automated systems will be essential to the future.
The activity meets several learning objectives including Common Core Standards, Next Generation Science Standards as well as California SEL Competencies. Click here to view the curriculum!
